UCLA Center for Iranian Music & Iranshahr Orchestra
 

The UCLA Center for Iranian Music and the Iranshahr Orchestra are pleased to announce a Call for Scores for an upcoming concert at UCLA’s Schoenberg Hall.

This initiative seeks to support composers interested in creating and presenting music that brings together Western and Iranian instruments and encourages new approaches to contemporary musical composition.
 

Instrumentation

Submitted works should be written for the following ensemble:

• String Quintet: 2 Violins, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass

• Western Percussion: 1 player

• Iranian Percussion: 1 player

Composers may additionally include one of the following Iranian instruments:

Tar · Santoor · Kamancheh · Tanbour

The additional Iranian instrument is optional, and composers may select only one instrument from the list above.
 

Duration

Submitted works must not exceed 7 minutes.
 

What Selected Composers Receive
 

Selected composers will receive:

1. Three rehearsals with the Iranshahr Orchestra and a public concert performance at UCLA’s Schoenberg Hall in April

2. A professional recording of their work

3. The top two selected composers will each receive a $500 award

• Score in PDF format

• Audio recording or MIDI mockup, if available

• Short biography

• Brief program note

• Instrumentation list

• Contact information

January 31 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time

Late submissions will not be considered.
 

Additional Information

Selected composers will be asked to provide performance-ready scores and individual parts and to communicate with the artistic team regarding rehearsal and performance preparation.

Additional details regarding the concert, rehearsal schedule, and preparation of performance materials will be communicated directly to selected composers.
